Joseph R. ("Joe") Shaffer, born on August 28, 1933, in Glen Ferris, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at the age of 81, in Yuma, Arizona, on May 14, 2015, with his daughters Leslie Martin and Lisa Cadenas and niece Cynthia Fujikawa, by his side. Joe served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-1956, and was discharged as an Airman First Class. After being stationed in French Morocco, in 1954 the senior teletype operator was transferred to London, England, where he met and married Sheila Gates Breckle, a Staff Sargent who was also stationed there. He attended University of Maryland, McCoy College, and Johns Hopkins University. After leaving the Air Force, Joe made a career in the testing and sales of power tools and light construction equipment. He also wrote and published poetry and short stories and authored the novel "The Trowbridge Women." The Air Force Veteran of the Korean War was preceded in death by his true love Sheila, and his brother Byron. He is survived by his children, Lisa J. Cadenas, and her husband Jose, of Winnetka, California, Leslie C. Martin, and Edward, of Kaaawa, Hawaii, Joseph A. Shaffer, and his wife, Gabriela, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Eric P. Shaffer, and his wife, Veronica Winegarner, of Kailua, Hawaii, the six grandchildren he loved greatly, Sheila and Victoria Cadenas, Keith, Kraig, and Kole Martin, and Cassandra Shaffer, his sisters, Ellen Taylor, of Maryland, and Carol Shaffer, of Michigan, and his nieces and nephews.

Well it has been five years since you passed away. I still have dreams with you in them and I know that will go on forever since I still have dreams with Mom in them. I miss you, Pop. You would be happy and proud of Jose, me, and our girls. I wish you were here to share all of this with. I love you. The Caboose
