JOSEPH WILLIAM SIMITZ, 90, beloved husband of Mary Lou Ennis Simits, passed away Friday, May 30, 2025, in his home surrounded by his loving family.
A native of McKees Rocks, PA, Joe was a son of the late Joseph and Josephine Nickles Simitz. He graduated from Duquesne University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He enlisted in the Army just after the Korean War and served 2 years before returning to Pennsylvania. Joe had a distinguished career in the nuclear field. In 1990, he moved to Aiken, where he continued his professional journey with SRNS as a systems analyst.
Joe was not only devoted to his work but also to his passions. A dedicated fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pittsburgh Pirates, he enjoyed sports throughout his life. Joe was also an avid golfer, achieving an impressive twelve holes-in-one, with his last coming at the age of 82 at Prestwick Country Club in Myrtle Beach.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 64 years, Mary Lou; three daughters, Luanne Hernandez, Terri Carrel (Jack), Mary Jo Miller (Ray); two grandsons, Carlos Joseph Hernandez and Anthony Gabriel Hernandez; two sisters, Marlene Bernie, Charlene Cutrorie; and a brother, Edward Simitz.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday morning, June 6th at 11 o’clock at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church. Farewell prayers and commendations will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The services will be livestreamed at https://iframe.dacast.com/b/156599/c/585055 .
