Northbridge- Joseph H. Stanovich Sr., 89, of McBride St., passed away on Wed. Sept. 6, 2023 after an illness.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nancy (Ladeau) Stanovich; 8 daughters, Nancy Wentworth of Milford, Gail Stanovich of Northbridge, Dale Kenneson and her husband Bruce of Thompson, CT, June Stanovich of Whitinsville, Bonnie McComiskey and her husband Timothy of Northbridge, Tammy Augustine of Grafton, Cindy Stanovich of Lakewood, CO, Mindy Stanovich of Northbridge with whom he lived; 2 sons, Joseph Stanovich Jr. of Grafton and Dennis Stanovich and his wife Ellen of Northbridge; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren (and one on the way); 3 step-grandchildren; 5 step-great grandchildren; a brother, Frank Stanovich of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late Raymond P. Stanovich, John L. Stanovich, Edward Prior, and Pauline Paquette. Born in Northbridge on Nov. 8, 1933 he was the son of John and Josephine (Demars) Stanovich and lived here all his life.
Mr. Stanovich worked for Chrysler Corp. and as a manager for several area dealerships. A master of all trades, he was also employed as a property manager for Weld Management. He also owned and operated Stan's General Repair, fixing cars on the side. Creative and talented, he was affectionately known in town as the Mechanic Magician and the Carburetor Man.
Family was everything to Joe. Sundays and holidays were always for spending time with his wife and kids, especially at the "garage café" at his daughter's home. He enjoyed flying his remote-control planes, attending air shows, and Native American Pow Wows. A member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, he spent time building his own ultra-light plane. He also built a motorcycle which he rode in the Northbridge Bicentennial parade. Always devoted to his wife, Joe loved taking day trips with Nancy, especially to the Ledges Lake in Vermont. He was a member of St. Peter's Church. His family would like to thank Advinia Care and Salmon Hospice for their outstanding care and support.
His funeral will be held Tues. Sept. 12 at 10 am in Jackman Funeral Home, 12 Spring St. Whitinsville. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Mon. Sept. 11 from 5 to 7 pm. Memorial donations in Joe's memory may be made to: Dana Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284.
