On March 26, 2023, Joseph Andrew Starz, Jr., 87, of Glen Rock, passed away peacefully with family by his side. He was the devoted husband to Rev. Jacqueline F. (Freeman) Starz for 64 years. Joseph was born on August 27, 1935, in York, PA to the late Marian L. (Andrews) and Joseph Andrew Starz, Sr. He graduated from North York High School in 1953, then proudly served in the US Army. He was Co-owner of Eater & Starz Quality Cars Mazda for many years, until he sold to Jack Giambalvo in 1982. He became the sales manager for Jack Giambalvo until he retired in 1995. He also owned a home in Big Sky, MT for 20 years, and loved going out there. Joe was a member of the Hawks Gunning Club in York, and was an active member of the Mt. Zion Potosi United Methodist Church. In his spare time he enjoyed golfing, working in his work shop, and meeting up with his high school class on the first Monday of every month. Joe's passion was owning numerous race cars, racing at local dirt tracks, and following it through the race scene.
Joe is survived by his wife; children, Doug Starz, Fay Ganster and husband Jason, Joseph Starz, III and wife Lori, and Pamela Prowell; 9 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Joan "Pete" Meisenhelder; and a son-in-law, Thomas H. Prowell.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at 10:00AM at Mt. Zion Potosi UMC, 10703 Mt. Zion Rd., Glen Rock, PA 17327. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Larry Parlett will officiate.
