Joseph Bernard Tappel

Joseph Bernard Tappel, known affectionately as Joe to his friends and family, passed away on August 17, 2025, in Springfield, Virginia, at the age of 70. Born on November 13, 1954, in St. Louis, Missouri, Joe was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Joe's life was a tapestry of dedication and love, beginning with his cherished family. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Teresa Tappel, and his children, Benjamin Tappel, Jacqueline Denardo (Travis), and Paula Kemp (Paul), who will forever remember him as a guiding light in their lives. His legacy continues through his adored grandchildren, Jakob Kemp, Tyler Kemp, Lincoln Kemp, Ryan Denardo, and Emma Denardo, each of whom brought immense joy and pride to their grandfather.

For 29 years, Joe served with distinction at the Department of the Army, where his commitment and work ethic were as steadfast as his loyalty to his country. His colleagues knew him as a man who could always be relied upon, a true team player whose sense of humor and approachability made him a favorite among his peers.

Joe had a deep love for life's simple joys-he was happiest cheering at baseball games, sharing stories, planning his next travel adventure, collecting anything that caught his eye or trying his luck at the casino. He also had a knack for fixing things and was always handy around the house, never hesitating to lend a hand when something needed repair. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and the warmth he brought to every room.

As we bid farewell to Joseph Bernard Tappel, we celebrate a life lived to the fullest, a life rich in experiences, love, and laughter. Joe's memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of those who knew him best. His influence and the values he instilled in his family will continue to resonate through generations, a testament to a life well-lived.

Joe's friends and family are invited to gather to celebrate his life beginning at 12:30pm on Sunday, August 31, at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home. Guests will be invited to share their memories of Joe beginning at 1:30pm.
