Joseph A. Tiso
"Proud Veteran of the U.S. Army"
Joseph A. Tiso, 93, of Southbury, entered into the gates of heaven on Friday, February 28, 2025.
Joe was born in Waterbury on October 25, 1931, a son to the late Filippo and Maria Libera (Claricurzio) Tiso. After graduating from Crosby High School Class of 1949, Joe attended Post College. Joe felt compelled to proudly serve his country, which he did by enlisting in the United States Army. Fluent in Italian, French and Spanish he served as a translater at Fort Hood during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1956. Joe remained in Texas, moving to Dallas after accepting a job at Texas Instruments, where he made a career for over thirty-five years, then returning to Connecticut after his retirement. Lovingly known as everyone's "Uncle Joe", he was an avid coin collector, opera aficionado and poet. He loved to share his countless stories, photos and memorablilia of meeting and socializing with iconic celebrities of a bygone era, and was featured in People Magazine last year reminiscing about these unique friendships.
Often described by so many as "The kindest man I ever met", Joe leaves behind to cherish his memory his sister, Elena Einik of Watertown, as well as nieces, Lori Nelson and her husband Dr. Andrew Nelson of Southbury and Marianne O'Brien of Naugatuck. His longtime aide and dear friend Sharon Ieronimo of Wolcott, as well as his cherished circle of "Texas" friends he considered family. He was predeceased by his sisters Carmel Tarasewicz and Rose Stango. Brother's in law John Einik and Henry Tarasewicz as well as nieces Linda Zarrella and Judith Reilly.
Arrangements: Joseph will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in the Tiso family plot. A graveside service with military honors at Calvary will be held on Saturday, April 5th at 11 am. Chase Parkway Memorial, the Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, has been entrusted with handling Joseph's funeral arrangements.

I met Joe when he was working as an usher at the movie theater where I held my very first job. He was an incredibly friendly person, and I always enjoyed our conversations about music and film. Although it´s sad to know that he´s longer here, I´m glad to see that he lived a long life. Rest in peace, Joe!
