JEFFERSON-Joseph Michael Tobie, 67, passed away January 19, 2025 at the Hospice House of the Western Reserve, following a long battle with cancer and Evan's Syndrome.
He was born on March 23, 1957 in Ashtabula, Ohio; the son of Michael and Catherine (Rishel) Tobie.
Joe worked a 45 year career at Morton salt as a heavy equipment operator in the salt mines. The job that Joe truly loved most in life was one that involved always helping others, being a paramedic. He worked for several different departments, but the most memorable years were those spent with Jefferson Rescue, where he served as past Chief and was a big proponent in them becoming a Full Time agency; he also served as the SWAT Team medic for the Ashtabula County Sheriff's Department for 18 years. He was a past trainer for Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals for their new paramedics and EMTs training and certification courses.
Joe certainly was a student of the game of life. Everything he learned to do, he took to the fullest extreme to become the best and most knowledgeable. Whether it was mechanics, electrical work, welding, fabrication, and even a locksmith, he truly was a "Jack of all Trades" who always worked diligently to master each and every one of those trades.
Joe's sons and grandkids were his life, his source of pride and his reason for living. He loved them more than anything in this world. He had a sense of humor that often got him in trouble and he never truly understood "political correctness"; but for those who truly got to know Joe, they knew he had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone who was in need. He didn't have any hobbies because he was always working to provide for his family, and because he loved what he did to make a living.
He is survived by his son's: Michael (Rachael) Tobie, Jeremiah Tobie, and Christopher Turano; His grandchildren: April (James) Dodd, Elliott Tobie, Sophia Tobie, Grayson Tobie, Killian Tobie, Adeline Tobie and Luca Tobie; His siblings Tom Tobie, Loretta "Lori" Pinelli, and Mark Tobie.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Joshua.
Funeral services will be held at Fleming and Billman Funeral Home, 49 West Jefferson St., Jefferson, OH. Calling hours will be held Friday evening from 5 to 8 PM and funeral service will be held Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 11 AM at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Rays Corners Cemetery in Lenox.
