Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather.
Joseph A. "Joe" Vivier, 87, of Pelham, NH, the former Owner and Operator of American Auto Body and Auto Sales in Lowell, MA for almost 60 years, died on Monday, May 5, 2025, at his home after a year of declining health.
He was the loving husband for over 67 years to his wife, Angeline C. (Betty) Vivier, who survives him.
Born in Lowell, Massachusetts on October 2, 1937, he was the son of the late Arthur J. and the late Annette (Albert) Vivier.
Prior to his retirement at age 82, Joe and his wife owned and operated American Auto Body and Auto Sales on Gorham St. in Lowell. Joe's interest in cars also included owning and restoring several models of antique cars, which won him many awards at the car shows he attended. Collecting miniature cars and 50s paraphernalia was also a favorite pastime. During the summer months, Joe loved spending hours outdoors taking care of his yard and pool and then sitting on the porch with his wife to admire how beautiful it all was.
Aside from his devotion to his wife and family, Joe's second great love was food. His first words in the morning were, "What's for dinner tonight?" As sick as he had been recently, his appetite never diminished. Joe enjoyed his breakfasts at the Owl Diner in Lowell as well as the Broken Yoke here in town until this past year when illness sidelined him. For many years, grocery shopping at the local Hannaford had been Joe's weekly, and oftentimes daily job. If you were in the store at the same time as Joe, you could hear him coming on one of the motorized shopping carts. Whether it was the "beep, beep" of him backing up or him shouting, "Coming through here!" Joe made his presence known. He was quite the character and wherever he went in town, store workers knew him by name. Joe had a huge heart and more empathy than most. He will be sadly missed by many, especially his family.
Besides his wife, Angeline, Joe is survived by two daughters, Robin Andrews and her husband, Bob of Center Barnstead, NH, and Susan Vivier of Pelham, NH; six grandchildren, Jaime Andrews, Tim Andrews, Lauren Fumo, Robbie, Matt, and Jeff Tousignant; ten great grandchildren, Charlie, Reid, Bennett, and Isla Andrews, Haylee and Tanner Fumo, Liam, Ethan, Max, and Jack Tousignant; a brother-in-law Harry Betty, Jr. and his wife Sheila of Virginia, sister-in-law Pauline Vivier of Lowell, several cousins and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Robert W. Vivier and the late Dolores M. Quirbach.
Private Funeral Services were held at the convenience of the family. His family invites you to share any stories or memories you have of Joe on the Tribute Wall at www.pelhamfuneralhome.com. Arrangements by the PELHAM FUNERAL HOME - PELHAM - NH - (603) 635-3333.
