Josephine Fomby was born on April 19, 1940, in Talladega, Alabama. She was the cherished daughter of Myrtis Fomby, Sr. and Velma Fomby. A proud graduate of Talladega County Training School, Josephine embarked on a fulfilling career in the medical field, devoting many years to Citizens Baptist Medical Center until her well-earned retirement. Her life's mission was rooted in her deep faith, serving as a devoted member of Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where she touched countless lives. Josephine's home was an oasis of love; her hands were always ready to help, and her heart overflowed with compassion. She was the gentle glue that bound her family together, the warm smile that brightened gatherings, and the wise listener who embraced all in her presence. Her passions included cooking and baking, often lifting spirits with her culinary talents, while she found joy in reading and shopping, particularly on the QVC channel. On Monday morning, September 1, 2025, Josephine Fomby peacefully departed this world leaving behind a legacy woven with love, compassion, and an abiding faith that touched everyone around her. She was a remarkable woman whose life was a testament to grace, kindness, and relentless service to others. She is now reunited with her parents, Myrtis and Velma Fomby, son, Sabre French, sisters, Jessie Walker, Mary Brown, Lula McElrath, Geneva Curry, and Bessie McCluney, and brothers, Edward Fomby and TJ Fomby. Josephine is survived by her two loving children, Melvin Fomby and Takana (David) Petty, her adoring grandchildren, Mia (Keith) Embry, Kenny (Tonia) Britt, Dominique Cosper, Adrian Harrison, David Petty III, and Daisha Petty, as well as her beloved brother Myrtis Fomby, Jr., her sister Lizzie Bell Lynch, six great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, special nieces Bethany Turner and Tiffany Turner, a cherished granddaughter, Derricka Sterling, along with countless other nieces, nephews, and relatives who will carry forth her spirit of kindness. Though Josephine may have departed from our sight, she will forever dwell in the hearts of those touched by her warmth and generosity-a guiding light, a nurturing soul, and an enduring example of love and purpose.
