Joshua Eric Sill (Big Josh), 47, passed away on April 29th, 2024.
Josh was born on January 17th, 1977, to Debra Lois Freeman and James Roy Sill in Newport News Virginia.
Josh's early years were spent in the beautiful Smoky Mountains of Western North Carolina
where he enjoyed exploring the mountain side on his dirt bike, hiking to any and all
waterfalls, making friends wherever he went, and enjoying his grandmomma's delicious
cooking. In his adult years he moved home to Virginia where he continued to live a
meaningful life of fun, love, and adventure and made genuine and powerful relationships
with every person who was lucky enough to cross paths with him. To know Josh was to love
Josh with his deep-rooted compassion, loyalty, humor, and all-encompassing integrity. His
generosity to others coupled with his ability to make you feel important, safe, and loved
truly made him one of a kind. The world has lost one of its brightest lights and all who had
the opportunity to walk in his light will feel his loss deeply. May we all hold on to that light
he gave us and give it to the others around us because that is what he would have wanted
from the amazing legacy he leaves behind.
Josh was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, David and Lois Freeman; his
paternal grandparents, Wilfred and Mary Sill; his uncle, William Richard Freeman; and his
best friend, James (Jimbo) Earl Bryant.
He is survived by his mother, Debra Lois Freeman; his father, James Roy Sill; his spouse,
Julie Stephenson Peet; his brother, William Stacey Sill and his children Brittany Sill Christy,
Stephanie Sill Lowe, Natalie Reese Sill, and William (Buck) Stacey Sill Jr ; his brother Glenn
David Sill and his children Spencer Sill and Trenton Sill; his uncle, Marvin Lee Freeman; his
aunt, Doris Sill Wallace; his niece, Briana Noel Bryant; his nephew, Marshall Wayne Willis;
and more friends than he could count.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Friday, May 3rd, 2024 at Vincent Funeral Home, 9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge, VA 23140.

Josh was a wonderful, loving hardworking young man, born on day after our son. I always looked forward to seeing him when he came to work on our house in the spring and the fall. He always did more than he was asked and I tried to help him when he started his own business. We will miss you and send our condolences to your loved ones.

Josh was a really good guy. I was looking forward to continuing his services taking over for Williamsburg Irrigation. He did an amazing job and took care of everything that was needed. He is a true example of a life lived right. My sympathies and prayers to his family.

I am so sorry to hear that Josh Sill passed away. He planned to come in May to do some work on my system and I just thought he was very busy. He was just a totally lovely, kind and funny man and loved his job. My deepest condolences to his family.

I am so sorry to hear about this today, Josh worked at our house the previous week, he battled our birch tree over the sprinkler pipes... What an amazing spirit, I will look for something for our yard as a sign of blessing his work here.

Julie,
At times like this, no words seem adequate. Grief will lessen over time, but the memories you share with your husband will last a lifetime. I will keep you in my thoughts as you navigate this tough time, and I wish you hope and healing.
