Nina Belle "Granny" (McDaniel) Sprouse, 95, of Shacklefords, VA, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2025. Born in Madison, Virginia, on December 23, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Hubert L. and Fannie B. (Fincham) McDaniel. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Willie James Sprouse; her siblings Ruth, Edward "Eddie," Genevieve, and Katherine; and her children Gilbert Lee Sprouse, Willie "Brother" James Sprouse Jr., Rosa Cornelia Chappell, Robert Milton Sprouse, Faye Lucille Mitchell, Geraldine Guirkins McKay, Ronnie Charles Sprouse, and Jimmy Stewart Sprouse. She is survived by her children Nina "Frances" Bowen (Bill), Gerald "Jeff" Jefferson Sprouse (Cheryl), Luther Raymond Sprouse (Pam), and Elizabeth "Maddy" Madeline Buie (Lacy). She leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family who will forever cherish her memory. Nina is also survived by her special friend, Barbara Celis, whose love and friendship brought great joy and companionship to her life. On February 9, 1945, she married the love of her life, Willie James Sprouse, and together they raised twelve children. Nina worked at The Pottery in Williamsburg, VA, but her greatest devotion was to her family. She loved playing bingo, visiting yard sales and flea markets, and was a proud member of the Moose Lodge #886 in Gloucester, VA. Holidays were her favorite, always spent surrounded by family she so deeply adored. A cancer survivor, Nina was the strongest and kindest person anyone could ever meet. She never complained, always worked hard, and was the type of woman who would gladly give the very shirt off her back to someone in need. The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to her in-home caregivers, who provided such loving and dedicated care prior to her time with hospice. Their support and compassion made it possible for Nina to remain comfortable and surrounded by love at home. The family would also like to thank the hospice staff, whose kindness and comfort brought peace to Nina and her loved ones during her final transition. A funeral service will be held 12 pm, noon, on Friday, August 29, 2025, at Vincent Funeral Home, 417 11th St, West Point, VA. The family will receive friends an hour prior to services. Immediately following the service, the family will proceed to New Hope Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery in Shacklefords, VA, for the graveside burial service. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice House of Williamsburg. She will be deeply missed, but her love, strength and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
