Joy Elizabeth Richardson, 86, of Grapeland, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 4th in her home, with her daughter Carolyn by her side. Joy was a vibrant and caring woman, deeply loved by all who knew her. She was born on May 11, 1939, in Atoka, Oklahoma, to Andrew James Carey and Flora Hester Barber Carey. She grew up in a large and loving family with many brothers and sisters.

During her younger years in Oklahoma, she met and married the love of her life, Charles Richardson, in 1957. Together, they raised three children: Carolyn, Dianne, and Steven. Ten years into their marriage, Joy and Charles relocated from Oklahoma to Pasadena, Texas, where Joy began working at Bayshore Medical Hospital. She dedicated many years to serving others with a compassionate heart before retiring in 2000. After retirement, she and Charles moved to Grapeland to enjoy country life. Joy had a zest for life and found joy in the simple things-shopping, knitting, reading, crossword puzzles, and especially spending time with her family. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Being outdoors brought her peace and happiness. Whether gardening, taking walks, riding in the golf cart, working in her yard, or tending to her beloved chickens, she never stayed still for long-there was always something to be done.

A devout Christian, Joy was a member of New Energy Church in Belott. She volunteered her time generously through programs like Project Linus in The Woodlands, knitting blankets for hospital patients, and worked with Houston County Share, Inc., to assist families in need. She will be remembered for her radiant positivity, honesty, and deep faith. Joy never met a stranger and left a lasting impact on everyone she met. Her legacy of love, kindness, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Joy is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Aucoin and husband, Thomas of Grapeland; daughter-in-law, Cindy Richardson of Scottsdale, Arizona; grandchildren, Wendy Wassel and husband, Greg of Houston, Stephanie Wood and husband, Chad of Wortham, Shelbi Stockdale and husband, Clint of Houston, Brandon Marze of Grapeland, Mary Marze of Grapeland, Ashley Boyd and husband, Clay of Elkhart, Shane Richardson and wife, Richelle, Carsen, Carly, and Grace Richardson;17 great-grandchildren who all adored her. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Richardson, with whom she shared 62 wonderful years of marriage; daughter, Dianne Adams; son, Steven Richardson.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 20, 2025 at New Energy Church in Belott, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Houston County Share, Inc., a nonprofit organization close to Joy's heart.

Heaven has gained a true angel.
