Joyce Marie Taallerud, daughter of Paul and Agnes (Broden) Taallerud was born on December 9, 1936, in Crookston, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at Concordia Church in Fertile, Minnesota. Joyce grew up and attended school in Fertile, and graduated in 1954. Following graduation, she attended Moorhead State College earning a teaching degree. She was united in marriage to Jerome Flom on June 9, 1957, at Concordia Church in Fertile. The couple made their home in Gary for a short time before moving to Detroit Lakes where they raised their family of five children. Joyce “retired” from daycare in 2001, and continued to live in Starbuck until her passing.
Joyce was a member of Fron Lutheran Church, Fron Lutheran Church Bible Study, the Red Hat’s Society, Bridge Club, and Monday night Knit-night in Starbuck. She enjoyed bowling, walking and coffee time with friends. They had a special table reserved for her at the Nutcracker in Starbuck. She also enjoyed eating at Lyn’s Café and later Blairs. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Joyce was extremely generous and was known to be very helpful with an “if she can, she will” attitude!
Joyce passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota. She was 87 years old.
