SPENCER: Joyce E. (Gordon) Burnor Hames, 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 25, 2026 at Charlton Manor. Her husband of 35 years, Richard Hames predeceased her in 2022. She is survived by her loving children: Judy Burdett and her husband Roy of Oxford, Colleen Burnor of Spencer, Kevin Burnor of Spencer, Karen Burnor Voellings and her husband Paul of Spencer and Donna Hayes of Spencer; 22 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; her siblings: Ramona Marengo and her husband Paul of Dudley, Patricia Stevenson and her husband Francis of Louisiana and Robert Gordon and his wife Sharon of Worcester; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her sons: David Burnor and Mark Burnor, her siblings: Anita Deveault, Herbert W. Gordon and Norma Jean LeClair, and her children's father, Ralph Burnor all predeceased her.
Joyce was born and raised in West Woodbury, VT the daughter of the late Herbert and Ethel (Hedding) Gordon Gehlbach. She graduated high school, met and married Ralph and they moved to Massachusetts where she then raised their children, settling in Spencer. Joyce worked for many decades in the banking industry with Mechanics Bank, Sovereign Bank and Cornerstone Bank until her retirement. She was a very strong and dedicated mother and Meme’re, raising her children and grandchildren with a large focus on family, respect, and values. They celebrated all of the holidays together, Easter, Christmas, Thanksgiving and birthdays with 40-50 family and friends in attendance. Joyce loved to play Bingo and travel to Foxwoods and Atlantic City casinos, she took great pride in her gardens producing the most vibrant flower beds, and was also a devoted member of the First Congregational Church in Spencer. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
