Joyce Hanemann Obituary

Joyce Sueann Roberts "Grandma J" Hanemann passed away on November 29, 2022, surrounded by family and friends. Joyce was born on July 21, 1936, in New Orleans, Louisiana to Harold Dean Roberts and Abigail Grace Golden Roberts. She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Lambert Dittman (Buddy) Hanemann, Jr., her children Sueann North (Brian), Robert Hanemann (Mary Lee); grandchildren Molly Bilich (Luke), William North (Julie), Maxx Hanemann and Nash Hanemann; great-grandchildren, Amalie Bilich, Wesley North and Luka Bilich. Also survived by the family dog, Louie. She was preceded in death by her parents and beloved brother Harold D. Roberts, Jr. and her first born child Lambert Dittmann Hanemann, III who died shortly after birth. Joyce attended Gentilly Terrace Elementary School, John McDonogh High School and graduated from Fortier High School in 1953. She attended Soule Secretarial School. Her first job was at Southern Shoe Company. She went on to be a secretary for Dr. Oliver Dabezies, and became the executive secretary for the Contact Lens Association of Ophthalmologists. In retirement Joyce's true joy was volunteering at East Jefferson General Hospital at the front desk where she received the award for Volunteer of the Month. She also volunteered with Buddy at New Orleans City Park Botanical Gardens where she and Buddy were awarded the Volunteer of the Year award. Her most loved accomplishments were being a loving wife, raising her family, and the honor of receiving these two awards. Joyce would light up any room with her sweet smile, loving personality, kindness and compassion. Joyce loved to travel and was most excited to visit Europe and Hawaii! Joyce never met a stranger and made friends with all she met. She welcomed everyone into her home as family. Joyce also leaves behind her loving friends from Lake Oaks Subdivision Garden Club and Neighborhood and her Canasta friends from the People's Program. Joyce will be missed by her family and friends too numerous to mention. Joyce's family would like to thank Buddy's caregivers, Latricia, Lindsey, Steve, Maria, Lanare, Mary, Kim, Regina and Beverly for their love and support over the past few years. We are looking forward to remembering our dad's wife and our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend together. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on December 14, 2022 at 11 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church located a 6666 Spanish Fort Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Burial to follow at Lake Lawn Park in New Orleans, LA. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider a donation in Joyce's name to New Orleans City Park or the American Diabetes Association.

Joyce was a lifelong friend of my mom and always treated me so kindly. We spent time at City Park with Rob and Sueann as children on the carousel and riding the train. Those were wonderful memories from the early 1970´s. I visited Joyce and Buddy in the years following Katrina and it was so great to see them and their ever present boxer! May Joyce be welcomed into the presence of Almighty God and rest in peace. We loved you Ms. Joyce.
