Joyce Preis McKnelly

July 3, 1933 - January 19, 2024

Liberty, Missouri - Joyce Preis McKnelly, passed away peacefully in Liberty MO on January 19, 2024. Joyce was born July 3, 1933 in Natchez MS and grew up in Waterproof LA, daughter of Edna Joyce Preis (nee Prichard) and Louis Preis Sr. She graduated from Stephens College Columbia MO and married William V. McKnelly Jr. in 1954. The family moved to Johnson County KS in 1961. Joyce is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years and sons William V. McKnelly III, infant Henry, her parents and brother Louis Preis Jr. Survived by Maureen McKnelly, Michele McKnelly (Thomas Smisek), Jennifer McKnelly Ginn (Bruce) grandchildren Sandra & Sean McCann, Thomas W. Smisek, Lauren Zwicky, Trey, Ryan and Christopher Ginn, great grandson Rowan McCann-Brown, many nieces and nephews and her oldest friend Mac Wampold. Joyce was a member of Old Mission Methodist Church, the ACLU and Compassionate Friends. She loved to read and sing but hated to vacuum. In accordance with her wishes there will be no memorial service.

The family wishes to thank her loving caregiver Rebecca Lutes and the dedicated care staff at the Laurel@Norterre. Please remember her in your own way. If you wish to send a memorial Joyce would have suggested The Salvation Army, 3637 Broadway, Kansas City, Missouri 64111 or the charity of your choice.
