North Lawrence - Joyce Rhodes, age 81, of North Lawrence, and formerly of West Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, September 15, 2025.
Joyce was born on July 26, 1944, in Belgrove, West Virginia, to the late Louis and Martha (Stalnaker) Slaughter. On August 24, 1960, she married Charles William Rhodes in Ripley, WV, and they shared 30 years of marriage until his passing on July 31, 1990.
She worked in the community for more than 25 years, providing cleaning services, for Smith Dairy. Joyce was a devoted member of Ernest Angley's Grace Cathedral in Cuyahoga Falls for over fifty years. In her free time, she enjoyed tending to her garden, shopping, and taking peaceful drives through the countryside.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda (Ron) Danner; grandchildren, Megan (Phil) Bumgardner, Eric (Emily) Ogg, Amanda Miller, and Emily (Zack) Smith; great-grandchildren, Kayla Bumgardner, Logan Bumgardner, Bella Miller, and Everly Ogg; sister, Ann Carr; brother, Eugene Slaughter; and son-in-law, Scott (Michelle) Durkin.
Along with her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; and her daughters, Connie Durkin and Bonnie Knight.
Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Auble Funeral Home, 512 East Oak Street, Orrville.
A graveside service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Emma Chapel Cemetery in Liberty, WV, with Pastor Grant Garber officiating.
Memorials may be made to Ernest Angley’s Grace Cathedral in Cuyahoga Falls.
