Joyce “Jo” Lee Schweitzer, 82, of Bellefontaine, passed away at 12:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Hospice of Central Ohio. She was born in Cardington, Ohio on February 27, 1943, to the late Donald Earl and Winne Mathews.
On March 31, 1980, she married Dennis Lee Schweitzer, and he survives.
Jo is also survived by her son, Mark (Kassi) Schweitzer; grandchildren, Nate (Dahlia May) Schweitzer, Brittany Schweitzer, Joshua Schweitzer, and Heaven Lee Rhodes; great grandchildren, Kandas, Kaylee, Kyleah, and Kaysen; sister, Billie Wright; brother, Dean Mathews; several nieces and nephews; and special dog, Sophie.
Along with her parents, Jo was preceded in death by her daughters, Tammy Schweitzer and Angela Griner; grandson, Chris Rhodes; and sister, Jean Stover.
Jo had a passion for crafting, shopping, animals, and nature walks. She regularly camped at Eagles Campgrounds and valued time spent with her family, particularly her great grandson, Kaysen. Jo served as the leader of the Women’s Ministry at Seventh Day Adventist Church and was an active member of React Citizens Radio Band. She was known for her generosity and, during the holiday season, collaborated with the Lutheran Center to provide Christmas baskets to families in need. Jo will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Pastor Carl Brooks will officiate a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at the Eichholtz & Daring Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N. Main Street, Bellefontaine. A visitation will be one hour prior to the memorial service from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, at the funeral home. Burial will follow the funeral in the Bellefontaine Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
