Joyce L. Simon

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Joyce L. Simon (Fleischer), 76, a resident of Warwick, whose gentle spirit departed peacefully on Thursday, June 6th, in the comfort of her home.
Joyce was born to Samuel and Betty (Sheldon) Fleischer in the Bronx, New York, Joyce's journey was marked by compassion and determination. In 1967, she earned an associate degree in nursing from Bronx Community College, followed by a BS from Pace University in 1985. Her dedication to healing led her to serve as the head nurse in the medical surgery unit at Jacobi Hospital in the Bronx followed by 20 years as a pediatric nurse in Peekskill, NY.
Joyce pursued higher education, obtaining a master's degree in science as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Pace University in 1997.
Relocating to Warwick to be closer to her daughter, Joyce continued her calling, working at the VA medical center in Providence, RI until her well-deserved retirement in 2020.
Joyce was more than a healthcare professional; she was extremely empathetic, known for her unwavering dedication to her patients, often going above and beyond the call of duty. A fierce advocate for social justice, she embodied the true essence of compassion.
Even in retirement, Joyce remained deeply engaged, immersing herself in the latest medical research and global affairs. A voracious reader, she found inspiration in the written word.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Joyce was highly creative. An avid jewelry maker, she delighted in crafting unique pieces for her cherished friends.
Joyce's love extended beyond humanity to the animal kingdom, she contributed to many animal rights organizations and rescued many dogs. Most recently her Yorkshire Terrier, Suzy Q, who became her devoted companion.
She leaves behind her daughter, Robin M. Simon of Warwick, as well as her brother Mark Fleischer of New York, and the memory of her late brother Steven Fleischer.
To honor her life, a Memorial Service will be held at noon on Sunday, June 30th in the Frank P. Trainor & Sons Funeral Home, 982 Warwick Avenue, Warwick. www.trainorfh.com, to be followed by a luncheon at Iron Works restaurant, 697 Jefferson Blvd. Warwick.
