George R Lonergan passed to eternal life on September 27, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Maureen Farrell Lonergan. Retired Battalion Chief FDNY, 9/11 rescue and recovery. Devoted father to Brian and Rachel Lonergan and Colleen and Kevin Lunny. Adoring Pop-Pop to Ellie, Liam, Luke and Lauren. His family was his fortune. Caring brother to Ellen and Jay Wolff, Dennis and Susan Lonergan, Joan and Gregory Chase. He is survived by his Aunt Betty Pate and many cherished cousins, nieces and nephews. Fondly remembered by his brothers and sisters-in law John and Kathy Farrell, Evelyn and Paul DaSilva. Predeceased by Ann Swanson and James Farrell. Graduate of St Luke's school, Whitestone NY, Bishop Reilly HS, lona College (Met Champs Rowing 8) and Pace University, MB George served in the NYS National Guard. He was a member of America Legion Post 335 Lynbrook NY. Proud union member Local #5 NY Boilermakers for 35 years where he made and valued many lasting friendships. He was predeceased by his parents George and Theresa Ryan Lonergan and his beloved sister Dr. Claire Lonergan. George was a friend to many including a few "Racoons". Quick with a joke and a generous compassionate heart, slow to anger and a never-ending capacity for forgiveness and understanding. Please honor his memory by a simple act of kindness.
