Joseph Gerard Geis Sr. peacefully departed this life on September 21, 2025, after a courageous and steadfast battle with heart disease.

Born 84 years ago in New York City to Pierre J. Geis and Mary E. (McCoy), and raised in Woodlawn, the Bronx, he cherished his memories of his family and spoke often of his beloved siblings and parents with warmth and affection.

A dedicated student, Joseph attended St. Barnabas Elementary School and Mount St. Michael Academy. He earned his undergraduate degree from Fordham University and subsequently went on to earn his MBA from Iona College. Armed with that education, he initially made his mark in the commodities industry before discovering his true calling: education. For many years, he devoted himself to teaching mathematics to high school students in New York City, inspiring countless young minds with patience and dedication.

In 1965, he married his neighborhood sweetheart, Jeanne Ann Kerins. Together, they built a life rooted in faith and love, raising three wonderful children in a community they adored.

A devout Catholic, he believed in the transformative power of prayer. Though he could not always be physically present at daily mass, he endeavored to embody the principles of compassion, forgiveness, and humility in his daily life, reflecting on the teachings of Jesus with sincerity and grace.

Joe was a man with a vibrant sense of humor and infectious laugh – a lover of life's simple pleasures. He enjoyed watching good football games, funny movies, playing poker, savoring a Cuban cigar (before he quit), and reading a good book. He had a sweet tooth for candy corn and delighted in a seasonal eggnog, relishing moments of joy and companionship.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Jeanne Ann; his parents, Pierre and Mary Geis; his brothers Richard and Pierre; and his sister Mary Rose.

He is survived by his brother James (Carol), his loving children, Joseph Jr. (Carolyn), Christine, and Justin, and the pride of his life, his granddaughters, Haley and Taylor Geis, and Delia Murray. He also leaves behind a big and truly heartbroken extended family.

Joseph's legacy is one of kindness, humor, and unwavering faith. His memory will forever illuminate the lives of all who knew him.
