Colonel (Ret.) Donald Frank Geis

July 24, 1932 – September 22, 2025

On the morning of September 22, 2025, Colonel (Retired) Donald Frank Geis, age 93, passed away peacefully at his home in St. Augustine, Florida.

Donald was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and moved with his family to Florida in 1946. He graduated from Mainland High School in Daytona Beach, Florida in 1951. In the early years of his career, he worked as an architectural draftsman (1950–1956), built homes (1956–1960), and served as a police officer in Ormond Beach, FL.

His military service began at the young age of 17 when he enlisted in the Florida National Guard as a private. He rose to the rank of Sergeant before receiving his commission as a Second Lieutenant in 1953. From 1959 to 1963, he commanded the National Guard Battery in Daytona Beach, FL. In 1963, he became a full-time officer with the Florida National Guard, serving in Lakeland, Jacksonville, and finally at headquarters in St. Augustine.

He held many prestigious positions during his career. He retired in 1987 with the rank of Colonel, having served as Chief of Staff to the Adjutant General of Florida.

Don led a vibrant life in retirement. A former professional motorcycle racer in the 1950s, sponsored by Birch's Cycle Shop in Daytona Beach, he remained passionate about motorcycles throughout his life. He also enjoyed reading, home renovations, yard work, bingo, and a lifelong pursuit of self-improvement.

He held a Bachelor of Science degree from Excelsior University and a master's degree in management from Troy State University.

Donald was preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Lucille "Lulu" Johnson Geis; his son, Thomas "Tommy" Joseph Geis; and his brothers, Stanley and Gilbert Geis. He also deeply missed his beloved Jack Russell Terrier, Martini.

He is survived by his loving and devoted children: sons Lawrence "Larry" W. Geis of St. Augustine, FL, and Allan J. Geis of Daytona Beach, FL; his daughter, Victoria "Vickie" Geis Seaholm, and son-in-law, Colonel (Ret.) Peter E. Seaholm, both of St. Augustine, FL.

In accordance with Donald's wishes, a small private funeral will be held for family at a later date.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to VITAS Healthcare and Concierge Care of St. Augustine for the compassionate care provided by dedicated caregivers, nurses, and doctors. Your support and kindness meant so much to the Geis and Seaholm families during this time.
