Joyce Elrod Wells, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend passed away peacefully at home in Ringgold with her family by her side on Sunday, November 16, at the age of 91. She was a devout follower of Jesus Christ and was a member of Mission Glen Baptist Church in Rossville, Georgia. Joyce was a devoted pastor's wife and church leader. Her life was marked by an unwavering faith, a gentle - yet courageous strength, and a heart that embraced everyone she met. She is celebrating in heaven and joining her husband R.V. Wells, Jr.
She was born on March 26, 1934 in Maryville, Tennessee and was raised in the East Lake community. She resided in the North Georgia area most of her adult life.
She supported her husband's ministry with grace and steadfast devotion. Her warm presence, gentle counsel, and welcoming spirit touched generations within her church families. She had a special gift with children and she will be remembered for leading the nursery in her churches. She could calm the little ones with ease and preferred this ministry over all others. She also will be remembered for her beautiful alto singing voice through which she blessed her home and her church family.
In addition to her ministry, Joyce spent more than 20 years as a dedicated Avon Representative in the Rock Spring community. She loved connecting with people and her customers appreciated her reliability and her sincere care for their lives and families.
Joy made sure her home was a place of warmth, understanding, generosity and most importantly love. It was open to the community. Also, it was filled with the aroma of coffee, fresh baked cornbread, and spearmint gum.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, R.V. Wells, Jr., her parents, John and Christine Elrod, her sisters: Ann, Francis, and Clenys; her brothers: Bill and Joe(twin),Daughter in law: Dr. Carol Brand, and her great granddaughter, Lennon.
