Jocelyn Willbanks Scheidegger passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 in Longview, Texas. Joyce was born February 21,1946 in Cass, Texas to Willie T, Wilbanks and Grace Sykes Wilbanks. At the age of 14 Joyce moved to Dallas with her family and graduated from Dallas Woodrow Wilson High School.
In 1965 Joyce moved to North Carolina where her brother Vern Wilbanks was stationed. She gave birth to a baby boy that she lovingly put up for adoption. It was her love, hope and intention to give him a better life. They reunited in 2005 and enjoyed almost 20 years of mutual admiration friendship and love.
Living life to the fullest., Joyce lived in many different cities and worked several different jobs. Her passion was working with the VFW and the American Legion. She retired from Stallworth Buick Pontiac, GMC of Marshall and often spoke of the good times there and highly of Mr. Stallworth.
In 1981 Joyce met the love of her life John Harvey "Jack" Scheidegger Jr in Florida. In 1982 they married and moved to Marshall upon Jack's retirement from the US Navy.
They both shared a passion for football and NASCAR Joyce loved her Dallas Cowboys and Jack, the Washington Redskins. Their favorite drivers for NASCAR changed throughout the years, but Joyce always picked "the young cuties"! After Jack passed away, Joyce continued the long standing tradition of spending time with friends and enjoying, watching the games and races.
Joyce was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #10373 and of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post # 267 for many years. She worked and donated many hours of time as she had a true passion for the military and its veterans. Jack and Joyce were very active in the VFW and American Legion together and Joyce continued to help when she could.
Later in life, Joyce showed a great interest in politics. She was a proud and avid "Trumpster" and you did not see her often without a T-shirt proudly displaying her views.
Joyce also enjoyed watching and interacting with Lane and Addison Elwood (the grandchildren of Gene and Aimee Childs). She would sit outside and laugh at their shenanigans, tell them the best places to dig worms and help with that task. She always had a Little Debbie snack waiting on them and you could see the joy in her when they gave her a hug. The love was mutual. It was the softer side of Joyce that she kept close to her heart.
In late 2021, Joyce was diagnosed with two types of cancer. Her strength, will power, faith, and a desire to continue to help family and friends only increased her determination to beat this ugly disease. After almost 4 years of fighting the cancer and other health issues she said she was ready to be with "Jack, sit on the porch and watch the pretty birds"; something they enjoyed doing in the cool evenings. Shortly thereafter she passed away quietly, holding a loved one's hand.
Joyce is proceeded in death by her husband John Harvey "Jack" Scheidegger Jr. Parents, "Daddy" Dean Sikes and Grace Sikes and Willie T Wilbanks. Brothers Vern Wilbanks and Roy Wilbanks and nephew Donald Wilbanks. Brother-in-law, Harry Scheidegger and sister-in-law Karen Hauzer.
Survivors include son, Dale Lands and wife, Bethany, and their children and grandchildren of North Carolina. Daughters Kerrie Goodson and wife, Chris of Dallas and Tonya Craig of Atlanta, Texas along with all of their families. Brother-in-law's Mike Scheidegger and wife Mary, Dale Scheidegger and wife, Carlene, sister-in-law, Linda Scheidegger Ward, Marla Scheidegger and many nieces and nephews of Michigan. "Adopted" daughter Aimee Heath Childs and husband Gene Childs, and grandchildren Lane and Addison Elwood. And numerous other family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be scheduled at a later date. Condolences and floral tributes may be mailed to 104 Donna, Marshall Texas 75672.
