JUDITH ANDELMAN Obituary

ANDELMAN, Judith Judith (Judy) Andelman, age 84, of Newton, died on February 18th, 2026 from Alzheimers. Judy was born September 16, 1941 in Lawrence, Massachusetts. She attended Andover High School and Wellesley College. Judy spent 35 years teaching at Bigelow and Day public schools in Newton, where she was known for her high standards and dedication to her students – a "teachers' teacher." She was passionate about public education and the dignity of educators. She carried those convictions into her work for the teachers' union and in local and national politics, where she was a tireless volunteer for causes and candidates she believed in. She was predeceased by her parents Saul and Lillian, her husband Freddie, and her sister Gayle. She is survived by her children, Debbie (Abram) and Steve (Olga), her grandchildren, Eliza, Jeremy, and Daniel, and many loving nephews, cousins, friends, and coworkers. Her love, her voice, and her devotion to her family and friends will be missed beyond words. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Judy's memory either to: "Judy and Freddie's Team," to raise money for ALS research: bit.ly/judyandfreddiesteam or Judy's beloved teachers union, which she supported tirelessly during her decades of teaching in Newton: bit.ly/newtonteachersassociation. Services will be held at Temple Ohabei Shalom, 1187 Beacon Street, Brookline on Sunday, February 22, at 10 AM. Services will be streamed at ohabei.org/live-stream/.
