Judith K. Bobe, a beacon of compassion and dedication, quietly passed away on May 27, 2025, at the age of 83, at GentleCare in Vincennes, Indiana. Born on June 2, 1941, Judy is the daughter of the late Gilbert and Dorothy (Cox) Bobe.
Judy devoted over 40 years of her life to the betterment of her community through the Head Start program, where she began her journey as a teacher in May of 1966 and ultimately rose to the esteemed position of Director. Her passion for nurturing and educating young minds was evident in every moment she spent with the children, as she cherished watching them grow and thrive. Judy was not only a skilled educator but also a tireless advocate for the less fortunate. She authored two Community Focused Grants to secure vital resources for those in need and served on the state family support council, an honor appointed by former Governor Frank O'Bannon.
In a truly remarkable act of empathy, Judy once spent two days in a cardboard box to experience firsthand the challenges of homelessness, further illustrating her deep commitment to understanding and alleviating the struggles faced by others. After retirement she continued to work as a preschool teacher at Community United Methodist Church until 2016. A generous spirit, Judy loved helping people and was always ready to lend a hand. She was instrumental in initiating the "Shop with a Cop" program, fostering community ties and supporting families during the holiday season.
Judy is survived by her brother, Larry Bobe (Donna); nieces and nephews, Kara Cooper (Steven Martin), Brett Bobe (Lynn), Brad Bobe (Amy), David Gus Bobe (Lynda), Pam Bobe, Buffy Bobe-Fell (Bob), Steve Bobe (Brenda), Todd Gray, Glenn Bobe (Tabby); great nieces and nephews, Slade, Bennett, McKenzie, Blake, Delaynie, Presley, Jackson, Cody, Allie, Joe, Madison, Hoa, Oliver, Tyler, Caleb, Annelise, Henry, Jeff, Jennifer, Gabe, Michael, and Quinn. Judith is preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Dorothy (Cox) Bobe; brothers, Billy Bobe, Jack Bobe, and Byron Bobe; sister, Edith Bobe, niece Becky Gray; great nephew, Hunter Gus Bobe.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025 from 11:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 pm at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home. Rev. Dale Biehl will be officiating with burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Knox County Shop with a Cop.
Though Judy may no longer walk among us, her spirit of compassion and her dedication to making a difference will remain a guiding light for all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
