Judith Ann (Hurrelbrink) Chaves, 84, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2025, after an extended illness, at the Hannah B. G. Shaw Home in Middleboro, Massachusetts.
Born in Jacksonville, Illinois, Judith was the daughter of the late Harold and Mary Hurrelbrink. She spent most of her adult life in
Lakeville, Massachusetts, where she built a loving home and formed enduring bonds within her community.
A graduate of the Southern Illinois School of Cosmetology, Judith worked for many years as a hairdresser-a profession she embraced with joy. Her kindness and generosity were reflected in the countless haircuts she lovingly gave to family and friends throughout her life. She also spent many years working at Denmark's Home Medical Equipment in Taunton, Massachusetts.
Judy will be remembered for her quiet strength, her resilience in the face of life's challenges, her warm smile, and the deep love she held for her family and friends. A talented baker-especially known for her much-anticipated Christmas cookies-she also enjoyed watching General Hospital and cheering on her favorite Boston sports teams. To her loved ones, she was the best mother, wife, sister, grandmother, and friend anyone could ask for. Her presence will be deeply missed and her memory cherished always.
She is survived by her daughter, Joni Brown, and her husband, Michael; her stepdaughter, Paula Secatore, and her partner, Dennis McCrossin; her grandchildren, Rachel Brown and her fiancé, Benjamin Wolfberg; Nicholas Fagundes and his wife, Laura; Abbie Sides and her partner, Alex; and Andy and Ethan Sides. She also leaves behind her loving brother, Roger Hurrelbrink, and his wife, Sandi; her cousin, Janet McEvers, who was like a sister to her; and many cherished cousins, stepchildren, step grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Judith was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Jill McGinnis; her husbands, Louis Chaves and Edward Secatore; her stepson, Remo Secatore; and her brother, Gail Hurrelbrink.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at the Hannah B. G. Shaw Home for the exceptional care, kindness, and support provided to Judith in her final years.
In accordance with her wishes, Judith's life was honored and celebrated privately by her family.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in her memory to the Hannah B. G. Shaw Home, 299 Wareham Street, Middleboro, MA 02346, whose care brought great comfort to Judith and her loved ones.
