Judith Featherston Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by High Point Funeral Home & Crematorium on Oct. 14, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Judith "Judy" White Featherston passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025, at the age of 81. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Mike Featherston; their three children, Jim Featherston, Karen Featherston, and Anna (David) Tuttle of Memphis, TN; two beloved grandchildren, Elise and Nolan Tuttle; and her brother Les (Betty) White of Nashville, TN. She also leaves behind her nieces and nephews including the children of her brother, the late Lewis White.

Judy was born on October 6, 1944 in Nashville, TN to Geraldine and Ernest White. She graduated from Hillsboro High School in Nashville in 1962. She then attended George Peabody College where she graduated with a BA degree in 1966, after which she moved to Memphis, TN to attend graduate school at Memphis State University. Judy struck up a relationship with her next door neighbor at the University Cabana apartments, Mike Featherston, which quickly turned into an engagement. They got married at Calvary United Methodist Church in Nashville, TN on July 6, 1968. She graduated with her MS degree from Memphis State University in 1969 and began work as a speech and language pathologist within the Memphis City School System. She worked with the city schools for many years but also spent 13 years at home raising her children. She retired in 2008.

Judy enjoyed several hobbies. In her younger years, she enjoyed painting ceramics as well as gardening and had a beautiful collection of daylilies. She has long been an avid doll collector and served as an active member in the Southern Belles Doll Club. In recent years, she enjoyed making homemade cards for birthdays and holidays with good friends. Judy was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and enjoyed volunteering weekly in the food pantry to serve the community.

Judy was loved by many and always maintained a positive attitude, even when dealing with adversity. She battled metastatic breast cancer since 2006 but never let any weakness or sour news dampen her spirit. She was a devoted mother to her three children, who definitely challenged her on a regular basis throughout the years. Judy's favorite role was as Grandmommy to Nolan and Elise. She loved their sleepovers and watching them grow as active and lively kids. She will be greatly missed by all.

A celebration of life is scheduled for October 19, 2025 at 4pm at Asbury United Methodist Church in Memphis, TN. Visitation is open to the public starting at 3pm. Please send memorials to Asbury United Methodist Church, 2969 S. Mendenhall Rd, Memphis, TN 38115. In-person donations to the church and/or their food pantry will also be accepted during visitation. Since Judy was a West Clinic Cancer patient, donations can be made to support cancer research and patients at https://westcancerfoundation.org/support/.
