Judith Calvert Flowers, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in
Phoenix, Arizona on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025 following a stroke two weeks earlier. She was 83 years old. Judy spent her final days in her Arcadia home of over 40 years in the company of those who loved her most.
Born in Joliet, Illinois and raised in Los Angeles, Judy graduated from Marymount High School in 1960. Throughout her life, she cherished her friendships formed there, faithfully attending reunions and staying in close contact with her classmates. She went on to earn her AB in Language Arts from the University of Southern California in 1964.
In 1967, Judy met the love of her life, Robert Flowers Jr. (Bob), on a golf course. The two married in Los Angeles and, together, they built a warm and joyful life in Phoenix with their three children.
Judy taught English, French, Latin and Spanish over her career at Shea Middle School and Sunnyslope and Shadow Mountain high schools. She was passionate about education and carried it into every part of her life: thoughtfully choosing schools for her children, reading and sharing books and newspaper articles with friends and family, offering religious guidance and political viewpoints, correcting grammar with love, and editing more than a few essays over the years in addition to her teaching.
Judy will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, endless love of conversation, unwavering faith, love of golf and skiing, and her famous holiday frosted cookies. She never missed a chance to connect-at the gym, bible study, poolside, or around a dining table-and was always ready with a delivery of cookies or fudge. She frequently traveled to visit her children and grandchildren, always prioritizing time together.
Over the years, Judy enjoyed many happy moments on golf courses and ski slopes. She relished time on the slopes of Steamboat and Beaver Creek ski resorts with three generations of family. For more than 45 summers, Judy and Bob enjoyed cherished days at White Mountain Country Club in Pinetop, Arizona-golfing, gathering with loved ones, and savoring the cool mountain air. As longtime members of Paradise Valley Country Club, they also shared countless meaningful moments there with family and dear friends.
Judy was a devout Catholic and active in her faith community, including as a member of the ARCS Foundation and a beloved member of her women's bible study group, whose friendship and fellowship she cherished deeply.
She is survived by her husband Bob of 57 years, and their three children and ten grandchildren: Derek and wife Katrina (Kaitlyn, Austin, and Carsten); Drew and wife Dana (Reese, Dalton, Paxton, and Callan); and Kirsten and husband Jon (Logan, Blake, and Chloe).
A celebration of Judy's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial contributions to ARCs foundation in her honor.
