Following a 5-month battle with cancer, Judith Anne Gromis, 76, of Concord, passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at her residence in Concord, NC.
Judi was born on September 23, 1945, in Reading, Pennsylvania to the late Harry Leon Werner and the late Margaret May Hermansader Werner. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, John Gromis, her daughter of three months, Stacy Leigh and her brother, George Werner. Judi is survived by her sons, Christopher, and Timothy (Christi), granddaughters Hannah and Ava, brother, Harry "Butch" Werner, sisters Margaret "Sis" Clayman and Jeanne Henry, and an extended loving family. We will all miss her more than words can express.
Judi grew up in Robesonia Pennsylvania and attended school there graduating from Conrad Weiser in 1963. She then married her sweetheart John Gromis and traveled with him to several Army bases during his term of service in the military. John and Judi's marriage was one of faith, devotion, sacrifice, courage and strength, a cherished legacy. Judi was a loving and devoted mother to her two sons. She served as a Sunday school teacher, den mother and helped to start the Little People's Nursery School at Trinity Lutheran Church in Robesonia, Pennsylvania. She also worked as a lunch aide at a local elementary school in Wernersville. Judi always approached this work as a ministry and sought out children from poor economic conditions to help in her capacity as a lunch aide. She served on the local library board and was an avid reader with her favorite genre being history. In 2010, after she and John retired, they moved to Concord, NC to be near their son Tim and his family. Judi was a wonderful Gammy to her two granddaughters and enjoyed spending quality time with them playing games, watching movies, and supporting their interests. Judi had a gift for encouraging others and touched the lives of many as she looked for ways to be a blessing. She had a beautiful warm smile and was beloved by her friends and family.
The funeral service will be on Saturday, June 4th at 1:00pm at Christ Concord Church, 240 Pitts School Rd in Concord, NC, officiated by Pastor Tenny Shifley. The family will receive friends from 2:00pm - 3:00pm at Christ Concord Church.
