Judith Johns Obituary
Judith Ann Johns, a most beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and friend passed away peacefully in her home in Lindon Utah surrounded by her family on July 5, 2023. After struggling with Progressive Aphasia for many years and a sudden onset of pneumonia, she was received into the loving arms of her Savior and friend. Judy has lived a life of service and sacrifice as a loving wife, mother, caretaker, nurturing friend, and active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, always putting other's needs before her own. She was the example of perseverance through an abundance of life's challenges and holding dear to her Faith in Jesus Christ and devotion to her family. She will be remembered by her unconditional and abounding love to her family and constant selfless service to them. She truly was a minister to us all. She spread love and joy wherever she went and impacted the lives of many.
Judy was born in Los Angeles California June 8, 1940 to Russell Vincent Peterson and Phyllis Giles. She was the oldest of 6 children: 5 sisters and 1 brother. Her upbringing was a treasured time in her life as their home was filled with joy and music. Judy learned to play the piano and to sing. With music being such an important part of their lives, all of her siblings learned to sing together and were unique with their beautiful dynamics and harmonies. "The Petersons" had debuts on the radio and television and were highly sought after to sing for weddings, funerals and missionary farewells and homecomings amongst family and friends. Judy graduated from Huntington Park High School in 1958 and then went on to study for a short time at Woodbury Business College before becoming an airline stewardess from 1961-1964.
In July of 1964 she met the love of her life, Dennis William Johns and it was love at first sight for both of them. They were married just 2 months later on September 2nd. This was the beginning of a tender relationship built upon unconditional love, long-suffering and patience as she cared for him through a 35 year battle with Parkinson's Disease. Upon marriage they ventured to Utah so Dennis could finish his degree at BYU while Judy supported him working for the Business Administration Department at BYU. After graduation they returned to California for Dennis' work where they would live and raise their 6 children for the next 25 years. In 1991 they moved back to Utah and eventually made Lindon their permanent home.
Judy was full of grace, elegance and beauty in all she did. She has worked in various capacities of costumer service not only as an airline stewardess, but as a bridal consultant for Gowns by Pamela where she worked for 12 years. After which she spent a couple years as an office manager for her sister's company JP Mortgage and eventually landing at BYU in the Student Employment Office. She retired from working at BYU in 2007. Her skills and strengths have always been to gently and kindly assist others with their needs. As a result she excelled in these various positions wherever she went and was greatly revered amongst her peers and coworkers.
She is survived in life by her 6 children: Laura (Jared) VanAllen, Darrin, Devin (Jarrie), Dallin (Karla), Allison (Steve) Johnson, and Janelle (Jeff) Gardner, 22 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and her siblings: Jeannie (Sparky) Sparks, Jan (Terry) Seamons, Julie (Rob) Deucher, Russ (Colleen) Peterson, and Rita Taylor. She was preceded in life by her husband Dennis William Johns, her grandson Travis Maddox, and her parents Russell and Phyllis (Giles) Peterson. Her constant strength, fight, and kindness through all life's battles will forever be an example to us all. We love her tenderly and will miss her dearly. We rejoice in her release from the hardships of this life and her reunion with her sweetheart, her grandson, parents and her beloved Savior.
