Judith (Judy) Peterson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 12 to Jan. 17, 2023.

We are saddened to share that Judith (Judy) Ann (Hooker) Peterson passed away on January 2, 2023, at home, at the age of 81 in Santa Clarita, CA.

Judy is survived by her husband of 55 years, Gary Peterson, as well as her children, Tracy (Peterson) Taylor, Brook Peterson and Anthony Peterson. All reside in the Los Angeles area. She also has a large extended family of nieces, nephews and their children.

Judy is the daughter of William Henry Hooker and Blanche (Aubrey) Hooker, both of Willimantic, CT. Judy was born in New York, NY, and grew up in the Willimantic, CT area.

Judy was a retired Registered Nurse, having studied and graduated from the University of Connecticut, Storrs. While in Connecticut, Judy was a Head Nurse at Windham Community Hospital. Thereafter, she moved to California, and worked as Head Nurse in the ICU and CCU units at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, formerly Cedars of Lebanon. The family moved often in the early years, and Judy was a leading health professional in hospitals in Dallas, TX (Parkland), Tampa, FL and Atlanta, GA.

Returning to California, Judy was an avid volunteer in the healthcare space. As a member of the volunteer community for the Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), she was Auxiliary President. Judy followed this with 35 years as a member of the Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital Auxiliary, with a term as Auxiliary President, in addition to several other elected Board positions over the years. Supporting healthcare opportunities was very close to her heart.

In past years, Judy was a regular tennis player. She also loved the ocean and the beach, and treasured ladybugs. Judy also liked to paint, do crafts, and socialize with friends.
