Judith E. McGovern Silva

Judith E. (McGovern) Silva, wife of Joseph P. Silva of Gloucester, passed away in her home on Sunday, May 18, 2025, in the presence of her family after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Born in Winchester, MA on February 13, 1958, Judy was the daughter of the late Charles and Alice (Kerrigan) McGovern of Woburn, MA. Her family moved to Gloucester in 1970 where she attended local schools and graduated from Gloucester High School with the Class of 1976.
Judy's career reflected her compassion for elderly and challenged adults in the community. For many years, she was employed by several area nursing homes as a patient care associate and more recently at Day by Day Adult Care in Gloucester where she provided clients with activities to improve their memory, socialization, and daily living skills. She felt immense pride in her work and was known for her quick wit and generous spirit. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Judy and Joe owned and operated the Main Street Variety Store in downtown Gloucester.
Judy enjoyed life's simple pleasures. She delighted in time spent at local beaches, fostering stray cats and dogs, finishing complex crossword puzzles, researching her Irish roots, and listening to the music of her favorite band, The Rolling Stones.
Judy was a devoted wife, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend who will be remembered for her tenacity, wisdom, and grace.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph; sister Denise Fleming and her husband, David; brother Barry McGovern and his wife, Julie; brothers James McGovern and Stephen McGovern as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents Charles and Alice McGovern and her brother Charles McGovern, Jr.
The family would like to thank the staff of Northeast Oncology Associates for providing Judy with exceptional care and years long support.
In keeping with Judy's wishes, services will be held privately.
