Obituary published on Legacy.com by Heald Funeral Home - Saint Albans on Aug. 21, 2025.
St. Albans - Judith "Judy" Simpson Olsen, 78, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2025, surrounded by family after a years long journey with Alzheimer's disease.
She was born February 19, 1947, in Randolph, the daughter of Thomas J and Eleanor (Kinsman) Simpson.
She was a lifelong Vermont resident. She attended Rochester schools and graduated from Rochester High School in 1965- one of 12 students!
She married Larry J Olsen on June 26, 1971 in
Rochester, Vermont.
Judy enjoyed being of service to others. She lived by the motto that doing for others brought value not only to them but to you as well. She accomplished this in many ways- making hundreds of hanging kitchen towels and dishcloths to give to family and friends; sewing gowns for Miss Vermont contestants, fostering children with special needs, leading both Girl Scout troops and Methodist Youth Groups; singing in the church choir and playing handbells.
She had many jobs in the customer service realm including working at the call center at Central Vermont Public Service, working in several offices of the United Methodist Church, working in the office at Walsh Electric Supply and running the Senior Center/Meals on Wheels program at Quin-Town Center for Seniors in Hancock, Vermont.
During her time in Hancock, she served on the Selectboard. Through her years as a devoted Methodist, Judy served on many committees at the local and state levels.
After retiring, she and Larry enjoyed many adventures, most of which took Judy to her favorite place- the ocean. Be it the ocean in Maine near Nubble Lighthouse or the beaches of Johns Pass searching for shells in Florida, Judy was happiest with the sun on her face and the sand beneath her feet.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Larry; her children Stacey Ladd (Sanford), Lynne Crocker (Chance), and Jonathan Olsen (Laura); her closest nephew, Gordon Merrill; her grandchildren: Todd Crocker, River West (Tyler), Tracey Crocker, Timothy Crocker, Abby Ladd, Samuel Olsen, Lilah Olsen and Jonah Olsen; her siblings: Carolyn Gimmler, Thomas A Simpson (Nina), Linda Lavalette (George), Melody Simpson (Thomas Heywood), James Simpson and her sister in law Cindy Larmie; good friends of more than 45 years, Bill and Janice Jacobs as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, Charles Simpson.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, September 27, at Rochester Federated Church 15 N Main Street,
Rochester, VT with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery immediately following the service. Reception will follow burial.
There are no calling hours.
Her family would like to express our sincere gratitude for the care and love provided to Judy by the staff of Our Lady of the Meadows, especially Robert, Sarah, Zoey and Pat. Also, gratitude to the VNA Home Health and Hospice of Franklin county- specifically Denise for her guidance and care.
