Judith Ann Shaffer, 78, went home to be with God on Sunday, July 28, 2024, after a lengthy illness. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family and friends.
After graduating from Warren Harding High School in 1963, Judy attended the All-Star School of Cosmetology, and became a Beautician. Later on she became a stay- at-home mom, which was her favorite job of all.
Judy loved Jesus with all her heart and dedicated her life to making a difference in the lives of others. She taught Sunday school, VBS, participated in bible study, and loved to take the church youth to visit retirement homes to brighten the spirits of shut ins. Her pride and joy over the last 17 years was her grandson; she attended every hockey game, baseball game, and school function. She even volunteered to help in the school library just so she could be present in his life. Judy loved to cook and bake from scratch and made sure everyone had one of her famous pies or chocolate chip cookies. She participated in 2 card clubs and always cherished those memories. She loved being home on her farm, where she baled hay, looked after her animals, tended to her flowers and gardens, fished, and made darn sure that the grass was cut at every possible chance.
Judy is survived by her husband of 56 years, Richard "Birdie" Shaffer, her son RJ Shaffer, daughter-in-law Erin Shaffer, and her grandson Matthew Shaffer. In addition, her beloved dog Gracie and favorite chickens Hillary and Agnes will miss her dearly. She was also very loved by many friends, cousins, and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Ruth Law, and her favorite aunt, Audrey Nelson.
Judy's family would like to thank Dr. Spada and her entire care team at UPMC Passavant and McCandless for their excellent care and compassion over the past year.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, August 1st, 2024 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Rd, New Castle, PA 16105. A service will be conducted at Eastbrook Village Church, 2412 Eastbrook Rd., New Castle, PA, on Friday, August 2, 2024 at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Briar Hill Cemetery.

I remember Judy's huge cat that she loved. Jim and I went to visit Judy and Birdie when we were dating and it was the biggest cat I ever saw. We spent some fun New Year's Eves with Birdie and Judy. Judy was so much fun! She will be missed .
