Judith Rae Ivie Shannon
1944 2025
Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Judith Rae Ivie Shannon, age 81, passed away surrounded by love on October 4, 2025, in West Valley City, Utah. She was born in Dinkeyville, Utah, and her life was a beautiful journey filled with love, laughter, and faith.
Judi lived all over the United States and around the world, including Okinawa, Japan, and Aschaffenburg, Germany, touching hearts and making lifelong friends wherever she went.
She was a beautiful lady with endless love in her heart for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, and the many dear friends who became like family to her. Judi gave everything she had, and more, to help others in need and to bring smiles to everyone she met.
She will be fondly remembered for her love of Taco Bell, her treasure-hunting adventures at the DI, and her knack for finding hidden gems and sharing them with her loved ones. She enjoyed playing card games (especially when she won!) and creating handmade cards with her special friends. Nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with her great-grandchildren, laughing and playing together.
Judi’s strong faith guided her every day. She loved missionary work and cherished the gospel of Jesus Christ with all her heart. And of course, no one will ever forget her playful spirit, her love of practical jokes, teasing, and laughter that filled every room she entered.
Judi was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Shannon; her daughter, Andrea Blackburn; her parents, Bert and Agnes Ivie; and her brothers.
She is survived by her children: Patty (Doug) Fotheringham, Penny McGriff (Brad Pitt), Shane (Katrina) Shannon, and Michael (Amy) Shannon; 12 grandchildren, with two on the way; and 16 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind loving sisters, nieces, nephews, and countless dear friends who will forever treasure her memory.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2025, from 10: a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life beginning at 12:00 p.m. (and lasting “until it ends" - just how Judi would have wanted) at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center, 6400 West 2700 South, West Valley City, Utah. A balloon celebration will follow.
A very special tribute goes to Tony and Penny Elegante for their devoted love and care of Judi during her final years on earth.
Judi’s laughter, kindness, and love will live on in all who were blessed to know her.
'Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day.'
