Judith Marion "Judy" Sundy

Judith "Judy" Marion Sundy, age 78, of Erie passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 following a long battle with dementia. Born in Erie on May 20, 1947, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Marion (Rorig) Cornell.
Judy and her twin sister Ginny were raised in Erie. She graduated from Academy high school in 1965 followed by Saint Vincent School of Nursing in 1969. She began her nursing career in the O.R. at Saint Vincent Hospital, initially in the main hospital then SV Surgery Center where she retired after 35 years of service.
Judy met her husband Ron when they were teenagers. They were married on July 17, 1971 until his death on May 7, 2013.
Judy enjoyed traveling especially cruising with Ron (over 20 cruises together) and globe-trotting with her daughter Mercedes to Iceland, Alaska and South Africa to name a few. She liked spending time at the peninsula where she would walk in any weather and bike or kayak in the summer months. She was a very talented knitter; many friends and family have something handmade by Judy including sweaters, socks and mittens. She enjoyed reading with her beloved kittens Primrose and Petunia on her lap, a glass of good wine, or a cup of Earl Grey Tea.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ron Sundy, and her twin sister, Ginny McGinnis.
Survivors include her favorite daughter and travel companion Mercedes Sundy of Erie, several nieces and nephews including Ryan and Kelly McGinnis and Shannon and Jason Reid and her "big sister" cousin, Pati Schetzina of Cary, N.C.
Friends may call on Thursday, June 12, 2025, from 2 p.m. until the time of a brief service at 4 p.m. at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th St. at Greengarden Blvd. Entombment will be private at Calvary Cemetery.
Mercedes would like to thank the staff at The Residence of Presque Isle Bay for their care of Judy over the past 2.5 years and Lakeland Hospice in her final days.
