Judy Walters Cox

Judy Walters Cox, 77, of St. Pauls, NC died peacefully on Monday, November 27, 2023, at the SECU Jim and Betsy Bryan Hospice Home of UNC Healthcare in Pittsboro, NC with her daughter, Wendy, by her side. She was well-loved and will be missed terribly.
Judy was born in Laurinburg, NC on January 12, 1946, to the late Ralph K. and Jessie Brock Walters. She was a devoted wife of 52 years to Marvin and mother to Wendy, whom she raised with love and devotion in St. Pauls, NC.

Judy grew up in Shannon, NC and graduated from Red Springs High School and Robeson Community College. She worked as an accountant with the City of Lumberton for many years, a job that she loved. In her free time, she enjoyed playing bridge, travelling across the country with friends on bus tours, spending time with extended family on annual beach trips, attending concerts, planting flowers, and reading. She was active in the St. Pauls United Methodist Church and community. After moving to Durham in 2020, Judy enjoyed spending time at the Charles House Eldercare Center in Chapel Hill where she made many new friends and enjoyed days filled with fun activities.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, and her brothers, RK Walters, Gilbert Walters, and Roger Walters. Judy is survived by her daughter Wendy Cox of Durham.

Visitation and funeral services will be held Sunday, December 3, 2023, at St. Pauls United Methodist Church at 2pm and 3pm, respectively, with Dr. Michelle Skipper officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Judy’s name to the Charles House Association (https://charleshouse.org/donate/), 7511 Sunrise Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27514.
