Julia Elizabeth Burnett, age 90, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, February 6, 2025.
Born in Pulaski, VA on October 28, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Maggie (Miller) Sturdivant. Julia was once the owner of Judy's Sub Shop. After selling the sub shop, she went on to work at Wilmington Plastics then to PellPort Medical Center, where she worked in housekeeping until retiring in 1992.
Julia enjoyed venturing out to yard sales and local flea markets; Cowtown was a favorite of hers. She also enjoyed making festive Christmas candy and delicious apple butter. Julia was a proud member of Lighthouse Baptist Church. Above all else, she was cherished time getting to create lasting memories with her family.
In addition to her parents, Julia was preceded in death by her husband, Zylman C. Burnett; and siblings, Robert Sturdivant Jr. and Elsie Sturdivant. She is survived by her sons, Jeffrey Burnett (Mable) and Bruce Burnett (Emma); daughters, Lenora Eckstein, Enola Burnett and Holly Ricchiuti; stepsons, Ronald Burnett (Donna) and Denny Ratcliffe (Naomi); sister, Nancy Gobble (Cecil); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Monday, February 17, 2025, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE where a funeral service will begin at 11 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE.
