Julia Williams, born July 1, 1952, to Susie B. and Robert C. Simmons, Sr. in Newark, New Jersey, is the third child born of fourteen children. Her brothers are Robert, Jr., Donald (twin), James, Jeffrey and Will. Her sisters are Alma, Joanne, Dorothy (twin), Lillie, Shirley, Fannie, Venus, and Denise. Julia has countless devoted nieces and nephews who shower her with deep love, positivity and respect.
Julia attended Central High School in Newark, New Jersey and classes at Kean University.
Julia married Leroy Williams in 1971. Her children, Rahim, Rashida and Rahsaan are the loves of her life. Julia's beautiful and handsome grandchildren bring her an extraordinary amount of joy. Julia's grandchildren are Tashad, Ruqayyah, Rahsaan, Teddy, Christopher, Tashida, Elijah, Amerah, Sa'Gee and Rahsaan Jr.
Julia dedicated many years taking care of patients at the Essex County Geriatrics Center at Belleville and the Essex County Hospital Center in Cedar Grove (Overbrook Hospital) as a Nurse's Aide; where she moved through each day with empathy, compassion and grace.
Julia's hobbies/activities are knitting, crochet, quilting, traveling, baking and reading. Julia is soft-spoken, quiet, non-confrontational, and giving of herself and time.
Always with a soft voice and an understanding ear, Julia is the person to turn to when in need of comfort and insight. Julia spends countless hours serving as a confidante to her siblings, children and grandchildren. Tirelessly Julia offers a space, without judgment, to voice your concerns, fears, secrets and dreams.
Julia's intense passion for reading is shown by the thousands of books she has read (and discussed) and the hundreds that she adds to her library each year. Julia love for knitting, crocheting and quilting is displayed in the many quilts and blankets she has handmade and gifted her family.
Julia's unwavering love for family goes above and beyond the ordinary. Many times, setting aside her own needs, and no matter the hour, she selflessly comes to the aid of individuals in need and to those in urgent situations.
Through her love of fresh baked goods, Julia spreads joy by baking batches of oatmeal and peanut butter cookies for her family. Sending them to us warm from the oven!
A lover of travel, Julia has explored Spain, Hawaii, Mexico and has taken numerous cruises with friends and family to many tropical islands.
Julia enjoys her red and yellow rose bushes. Roses are known as the Queen of Flowers and symbolize love, beauty, passion, friendship, joy and happiness. These words describe Julia Williams. Julia is our mother, grandmother, sister, auntie and friend.
