Juliana Mariani Julia (Julie), a beloved mother, grandmother, and dedicated social worker, passed away peacefully at the age of 59 in Greenville, NC on March 13, 2024. Born on September 12,1964 in Alexandria, VA, Juliana was known for her boundless compassion, vibrant spirit, and unwavering commitment to helping others.
Juliana completed her bachelor's degree in Social Science and dedicated her life to social work, passionately advocating for the underserved and voiceless in her community. Her career spanned over three decades, during which she touched countless lives through her work in a Women's Development Center, Visions services for the blind, Administration for Child Services NY, and the Salvation Army's project Fight to Stop Human Trafficking. Juliana was a beacon of hope and a source of strength for many, always going above and beyond to make a difference.
A devoted daughter to her mother Leonides Julia. She was a loving mother of three, Juliana is survived by her children, Juliana Domenech, Tomas Perez, and Walter Perez, and 5 grandchildren, who will miss her profoundly. She instilled in them the values of kindness, perseverance, and the importance of family. Juliana was a proud Puerto Rican who cherished her heritage and shared it with all who knew her.
Juliana was predeceased by her son Eric Velasquez, and her father Julio Mariani. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and service that will forever be remembered by her family, friends, and the many lives she impacted through her work.
A private celebration of Juliana's life will be held privately with family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Salvation Army Project Fight (South Territory https://southernusa.salvationarmy.org/project-fight/), a cause close to Juliana's heart.
Juliana's passing is a tremendous loss to all who knew her. However, her spirit and the profound impact she made in her community will continue to inspire and influence for generations to come. Rest in peace, Juliana Mariani Julia, a real life superhero, and thank you for everything.

I worked with Juliana at The Salvation Army. She was a dear person and a joy to work with. She was loved by everyone. I thought she was a fun person. She used to say she was going to travel abroad, and I would say I want to be packed in your suitcase. She would say YES! I believed her and felt truly welcome to travel with her to see her family home in Puerto Rico. Sadly, our time at The Salvation Army was cut short by her illness and we were robbed of the daily joy of seeing our sister Juliana. I was so heartbroken to hear she had passed away. I still can see her smile and her joyful eyes. Every time I think of her, I will smile and miss her.
