Julie Lynne (Mullins) Shumate
September 17, 1965 - March 5, 2023
Julie was born in Phoenix, Arizona to Ken and Rhona Mullins. She grew up in the Arcadia Lite neighborhood with her older sister, Karen, and older brother, David, with a brief three year stint in Guadalajara, Mexico where she quickly learned to speak Spanish like a native speaker. She was a proud graduate of Squaw Peak Grade School and Camelback High School, class of 1983. On February 25, 1984, Julie married the love of her life, Randall David Shumate, Sr. They were married for 39 years and one week. Julie was blessed with four children, Stephanie, Randy Jr., Joshua, and Jessica, and was Nana to two grandchildren, Noah and Leah, who brought her deep joy and pride.
Julie wasn't afraid of hard work, working as a hostess at Country Kitchen and Manuel's before starting at The Greyhound Corporation her senior year of high school. After graduating, she moved on to work for a local law firm, King & Livermore PC, before beginning her dream job as a stay at home mom. Julie loved her role as a stay at home mom, then returned to the workforce part time at her church, Camelback Bible Church, once her youngest was in school full time. There she served as the preschool administrative assistant as well as assistant to the Worship Pastor before going to work full time in 2010 for the Arizona Department of Education. She loved her role in the Career and Technical Education department, as well as her many co-workers who quickly became good friends.
Julie loved music, singing in the Sanctuary choir and playing handbells at Camelback Bible Church for many years. She loved babies and crocheting, two things that went well together as she made several blankets for her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends over the years. Julie's laugh was infectious; her joy and love for life was evident to all and she was loved by everyone who knew her. Her positive attitude and love for Jesus encourages us to love others well.
Julie is survived by her husband, Randy Sr., children Stephanie, Randy Jr. and wife Jess, Josh and wife Brittany, Jessica and future son-in-law Dicler, grandchildren Noah and Leah, parents Ken and Rhona, sister Karen Johnson, brother David Mullins and wife Tena, sister-in-law Julie Bertram and husband Kelly, and many loving nieces and nephews.
The family invites you to join them for Julie's memorial service on Saturday, March 11 at 10am at Camelback Bible Church, 3900 East Stanford Drive, Paradise Valley, Arizona, in the sanctuary.

I have so many sweet memories of Julie as we grew up Nextdoor to each other. She babysat me as I'm a lil younger. She has such an amazing family and was a huge advocate for new moms breastfeeding. Such a beautiful soul lost too soon. Much Loves to the family. Ken & Rhona thank you for putting up with me popping in quite often to visit. Sincerely Lara Johnson Batie

I can remember when she told me she was going to be a grandmother the first time...she was OVERJOYED and she counted the days prior to her first grandchild being born. God Bless her, her family and all of her friends, she was a beautiful person inside and out.
