June V. Isaly, 84, of Pittsburgh, passed away Friday, March 3, at UPMC Passavant,
McCandless, surrounded by her family. June was the owner of Isaly Counseling Associates for
28 years and the widow of Thomas A. Isaly, of the Isaly Dairy Company.
June was born on May 26, 1938, in Wheeling, West Virginia, to Orville and Alida
Vaughan. She graduated from Wittenberg University in 1960, with a B.S. in Education. It was
there she met and later married her forever love, Thomas A. Isaly. Her husband, Tom, worked
for the Isaly Company from 1959 to 1977, directing store design, purchasing, and franchising for
the chain that, at its peak, included six plants and 350 dairy stores. Together, they raised three
sons, Timothy, Philip, and David. Tom's death in 1985 left June widowed in her forties.
After returning to school, June earned her Masters of Counseling Education at
Duquesne University. During her nearly 40-year career, the first nine being volunteer, she
developed a national model Parent Assistance Program (POTADA). As the result of her
volunteer mission, she helped design a Student Assistance Program (SAP) for the North Hills
School District, which later became a model for all SAP's in the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania. June also worked with her son and late husband to establish The Chemical
People Institute, a series of national town hall meetings broadcast via WQED-TV to address
youth alcohol use and other drug problems. The Chemical People Institute later became locally
based task forces providing community outreach information, education and prevention
programs. This task force was spotlighted and supported by then First Lady Nancy Reagan. As
a trained interventionist, she consulted with Fortune 500 companies. June's achievements were
recognized in 1986 by Wittenberg University with the Distinguished Professional Achievement
Award for her commitment to the mission of drug and alcohol recovery.
In 1995, she established Isaly Counseling Associates with five offices throughout the Pittsburgh
area. She specialized in drug and alcohol recovery and helped countless families intervene and
navigate their loved ones' recovery without themselves falling into codependence. June
changed thousands of lives for the better. Her daughter-in-law, Lynne, helped manage the
counseling business, and many friendships grew between June, Lynne, and son Philip's wide-
reaching Pittsburgh personal and professional lives. She continued to see patients and later
managed her business on her own until 2018.
Her passion for her work did not surpass her love for her family. Her thoughtfulness was evident
in the perfection she displayed while entertaining, in her gift selection and presentation, with
attention to each detail. She showed gratitude for every effort of others. Gratitude was her tenet.
June is survived by her sons and their wives, Timothy A. Isaly and Kari Gould of Carrollton,
Texas; Philip E. and Lynne Isaly, of Ross Township, and David V. and Jacqueline Isaly, of
Houston, Texas. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Jackson Isaly, Franceska Isaly,
Austin Isaly, William Isaly, and Ethan Isaly.

There is a hole in my heart that can only be filled by June´s memory and the friendships I´ve made over the years with those who were blessed to know her and benefit from her wisdom and compassion as members of her women´s group. She was my counselor, teacher, leader, guide, cheerleader and friend. I loved her and I cherish her influence in my life. Rest in peace my friend.
