Ronald Seiling Obituary

Ronald "Ron" W. Seiling, 78, of Shaler Twp. took his journey home Monday, September 8, 2025 at home after a long, hard fight and brave battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Born February 5, 1947 and raised on Pittsburgh's North Side to the late William "Bill" and Elizabeth "Betty" Sherlock Seiling. He was the first grandchild of the Seiling/Sherlock clan. After graduating from Perry High School he secured his first job as a "stockboy" at the former Gimbel's Department Store in downtown Pittsburgh. He later went to technical school where he trained to become a licensed electrician, a prophecy made by his mom when, as a toddler, he dragged an extension cord around the house. "Ron's gonna be an electrician someday!", she told his day. And so it was ordained... His first electrician's job was with Kostovny Electric. Later he secured a job with PPG (now Vitro), where he worked for decades, before failing health forced him to take a permanent disability. Halloween and Christmas were his favorite holidays. His outdoor decorations were incredible! Ronnie was an avid and creative model railroader and fanatical yard sale/rummage saler nearly every Saturday, where he never met a tool he didn't like. Ron was also a huge Three Stooges fan and never missed an episode of "The Sopranos" and "Ray Donovan". He also enjoyed classic British comedies on WQED (PBS). Ron would devour the then "daily" Post-Gazette and always circle stories he thought "Don" would be interested in. Quite a guy, our Ron! A.KA. Ronnie, Slim, "Big Cat", Ace, Bud-Bud, Sparky, and numerous other nicknames, Ron is survived by his loving sister, Charleen Gombert of Lutz, FL; super-helpful brother-in-law Ken Gombert, who was our medical guru; and adoring niece Emma. All of whom were so incredibly loving, helpful, and caring, even 1500 miles away during Ronnie's medical issues. Also survived by his "little sister" and caregiver, Donna, also of Shaler Twp. The two lived together for 72 years and were more best friends than siblings. He is also survived by several cousins and good friends. Ron's journey has left a huge void that nothing can ever fill, but memories will always survive. Friends can visit Ron on Thursday, September 11, 2025 12-9 p.m. at Simons Funeral Home , Inc., 7720 Perry Hwy, Pgh, PA 15237, where all are welcome at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 12, 2025 to leave for Union Dale Cemetery where Ron will be laid to rest on our beloved North Side. Please no flowers. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to Good Samaritan Hospice via Concordia Lutheran Ministries Foundation, 134 Marwood Rd., Cabot, PA 16023 (note to staff appreciation fund) or go to give.concordialm.org. The nurses who took care of Ron for nearly 18 months are true angels who do such wonderful work and are unbelievably supportive, kind, and serve with their time in answering any questions or addressing any needs you may have. We are forever grateful to all these nurses, social workers, and other staff at GSH who were available 24/7 and were so patient and helpful during the many bumps in the road. A special "shout-out" to Jen, the Physicians Assistant and Ron's regular nurses - Erin, Kaylee, Lindsay, and more recently Becky - but there was nothing regular about them. Their care was unimaginable and so heartfelt. They loved Ron and he love them back. Always kind, always caring. Rest in peace, Ronnie. Say "hi" to the family for us. It's been a hell of a ride, but you took it with strength and determination. We can all learn from you and as always, we love you.
