June E. (Albro) Jones
1926-2023
June Elaine (Albro) Jones passed away peacefully on Thursday August 3, 2023 following a four-day illness. There was nothing June loved more than being in the middle of a crowd and she spent those final days surrounded by her devoted family.
Just a few weeks beforehand, June celebrated her 97th birthday at her son Jason's house by "holding court" as always; regaling all with stories and erupting in laughter, her quick wit entirely intact.
June and Frederick Jones were married on June 19th 1941 and enjoyed raising their (6) children in Pomfret and Danielson, CT.
June lived her life as a force of nature. A self-described "people person", virtually everyone she met became her new best friend. A lover of Broadway, local theater, music and dancing, she lamented about being "only a foot" too short to fulfill her dream of becoming a Rockette. But the need to perform never left her, much to her children's embarrassment (which added to the fun in her eyes). She was always ready to break out a new routine whenever and wherever; department stores, the grocery aisle if there was music, she was dancing.
Beyond her love for the arts, June spent many years developing and tending to extensive floral gardens at her home in Pomfret. She also loved an evening dip in the pool and hosting her famous spaghetti dinners, where any and all were welcome. June was many, many years ahead of her time in the warm acceptance of others without judgment. She remained actively interested in politics and was never shy about expressing her views. She adored her succession of Siamese cats, the last of which was with her through her 95th year.
June was predeceased by her husband Frederick, her beloved daughter, Ann, and her granddaughter Erica. She leaves her surviving children Kathryn Keech and Marcia Melton of Brooklyn, CT, Nancy Jones of Unionville, PA, Elizabeth Hirschfeld and her husband, Joseph, of
Hampstead, NH and Jason Jones and his wife Ellen (Witkowski) of Thompson, CT. She also leaves her ten adoring grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, as well as her friend of over 90 years Terri Wisniewski and family.
A memorial mass in June's honor will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at 10:00 am in Saint James Church in Danielson. Burial to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Danielson. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested a tree be planted in June's honor. Gilman-Valade Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Church Street, Putnam is honored to assist with June's arrangements.
