Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville ChapelJune P. Smith, age 68, of Louisville, Kentucky, departed this life on February 13, 2026. A devoted mother, sister, aunt, and friend, June's kind and giving spirit left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know her. She was a fierce protector of her loved ones, particularly her brother, and dedicated many years to serving at the Veterans Administration, finding a second family in her colleagues throughout her career.
Born on December 14, 1957, in Louisville, Kentucky, June was the beloved daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Johnson) Peoples. She is preceded in death by her father, Joseph Peoples, her mother, Elizabeth Henderson, and her brother, Cecil Peoples.
June is survived by her cherished family, including her brother, Stephen (Mary) Peoples, Sr.; sister, Lavida Roberson; her son, Eric Smith; and a host of nieces and nephews who adored her—Courtney Peoples, Stephen Peoples, Jr., Cameron (Sarah) Peoples, Alex Randolph, QuiJarvis Jackson, Jaylen Peoples, MariSol Peoples, Jayniah Peoples, Isaiah Peoples, Ariana Peoples, Deklan Peoples, Rory Peoples, and Riley Peoples, Derek Roberson, Dominique Roberon. She also leaves behind great-nieces and nephews, Ciara Peoples and Camille Peoples; aunties, Shirley Mitchell and Lois (Larry) Starks, along with special friends June Demus, Sheila Tibbs, Kenyatta Warren, and Bridget Randolph; as well as a host of cousins, extended family and friends, all of whom will forever hold her memories close.
A memorial visitation to honor June's life and legacy will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Southwest Louisville Chapel, located at 10304 Dixie Highway. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
Family and friends are invited to share their memories of June and leave messages for her family in the guestbook provided below. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
