June Watson Wicker, known affectionately as Watson by his friends and family, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2025, at the age of 86 in Clinton, South Carolina. Born on June 19, 1939, in Newberry, South Carolina, Watson was a man whose life was marked by dedication, service, and the joy he found in simple pleasures.

Watson was a proud graduate of Jenkinsville High School, where he formed lifelong friendships and laid the foundation for his future endeavors. Following his graduation, Watson answered the call of duty and served his country as a Navy veteran, a period of his life that instilled in him a sense of discipline and commitment that he carried throughout his years. After his military service, Watson embarked on a career with General Electric, where he became a respected maintenance supervisor. His colleagues remember him as a man who could always be relied upon, a friendly face who never hesitated to lend a hand or share a word of encouragement.

Watson's faith was a cornerstone of his life. He was a long-time member of St. Philips Church, where he not only worshipped but also found a second family among the congregation of St. Philips Joy Fellowship. His faith was evident in his actions and the way he lived his life, embodying the values of kindness and generosity.

As an outdoorsman, Watson found solace in the tranquility of fishing and the excitement of Clemson Football. His love for gardening was matched only by his enthusiasm for tackling risky tasks, which he approached with a blend of caution and gusto. These interests were more than just hobbies; they were the threads that wove together the tapestry of his life, bringing him joy and a sense of accomplishment.

Watson was a family man at heart, and nothing brought him more happiness than spending time with his loved ones. He is survived by his devoted wife, Martha "Jen" Wicker, who was his partner in all things and his rock throughout their marriage. His legacy lives on through his daughter, Melissa Wicker Taylor, and her husband, Andrew; his granddaughter, Jordan Taylor Meredith, her husband, George, and their children, Adley Taylor Meredith and Tripp Meredith, who brought Watson immense pride and joy.

Though he is preceded in death by his son, William Edward Wicker, his sister, Judith Wicker Ruff, and his parents, Mabel Watson Wicker and Earnest Eddie Wicker, the memories and values they shared continue to resonate with all who knew Watson.

Watson will be remembered as a friendly, faith-filled, and handy individual whose presence could light up a room. His impact on the community and the lives he touched will not be forgotten. Watson's life was a testament to the power of living with purpose and passion, and his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.

As we bid farewell to Watson, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey marked by love, service, and the pursuit of happiness. His story does not end here, for it is carried on in the hearts of his family, his friends, and all who were blessed to cross paths with this remarkable man. Watson's legacy is one of love, laughter, and the enduring strength of the human spirit.

A memorial service has been scheduled for August 27, 2025, at 3:00 PM. The service will be held at St. Philip's Lutheran Church, located at 2461 St. Philips Church Rd, Newberry, SC 29108
