JUTTA DANNEMANN
Jutta Dannemann passed away on November 18, 2023, at her daughters' home in Gaithersburg, MD. She was surrounded by her girls, Anke and Silke, and her life partner, John Patrick. Jutta was born on May 13, 1938, in Kiel, Germany to Ilse and Adolf Goetze in Kiel, where her love of the ocean began by swimming in the Baltic Sea. Her love of books led her to an education in librarianship. As a Librarian at the Kiel Institut fuer Weltwirtschaft (Kiel Institute for Economics), she met her husband Werner Dannemann whom she married on August 21, 1959. She subsequently took up a position at the Deutsche Bibliothek (German Library) and he at the Deutsche Bundesbank (German Federal Reserve) in Frankfurt, Germany. They had two daughters, Silke and Anke, before the family moved to Washington, DC in 1969 for Werner's position at the International Monetary Fund and set up a home in Potomac, Maryland. In 1983, she began working again at the TIB-GMD in DC and later opened with her daughter Silke PlanetJSD. After Werner's passing in 1989, Jutta met John Patrick, who became her second life partner in 1992. Together they lived in Potomac and at a beachfront condo in Ocean City with a stunning view of the ocean. In 2004, she rebuilt her home in Potomac after a massive fire. At Johns Hopkins in 2014 her entire spine was successfully rebuilt. At that time, she and John moved to a beautiful apartment in Ingleside Retirement Community in Rockville, MD.
She was enthusiastic about dancing and traveling and chose both her life partners to join her in these passions. She was fortunate to travel the world with both of them, including China, Kenya, Egypt, Europe, USA, South America and more. But her greatest passion was to sit and read on a beautiful soft beach and swim in the ocean. She especially enjoyed it when her children were young and later in life with John at their apartment in OC. Her hobbies included her beautiful garden, sewing, and the many dogs and cats her daughters would bring home. She also liked to spend her summers swimming and chatting with her friends at Bretton Woods Country Club. Many of her closest friends were her chosen family as they had also left their home countries, and she found a great deal of support and love from them. She was a very generous and compassionate friend and always there to support them in times of need. She supported a variety of charities and would donate during times of crises.
Jutta was predeceased by her husband Werner Dannemann, her parents, and sister Karin Claus. She is survived by daughters Silke and Anke Dannemann, and companion John Patrick. She will be missed by her dog Teddy. Funeral services and reception will be held on Monday November 27, 2023, at Noon, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Bethesda, MD. Her urn will be placed beside Werner's at Oak Hill Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any such funds be sent to a charity of your choice in her name.
