On August 10, 2025, our beloved Karen went to be the Lord. We are heartened to know that she is resting in the arms of Jesus Christ after a long battle with cancer. Although words cannot express how much we miss her, it is comforting to know that she is finally at peace.
Karen Spagna Flewelling was born in Elizabeth, NJ on August 6, 1963. From an early age, Karen let everyone know who she was and what she was going to do to change the world for the better. After graduating high school at 16 and getting her master's degree in public health at 21, she was poised to do just that.
As a supervisor at one of the country's first hospital-based wellness centers, she used her skills as an accomplished dietician to help people become well and stay healthy. She then went on to combine her dietetic knowledge with her sales abilities to sell enteral nutritionals for Mead Johnson. Her transition to sales was seamless, and Karen quickly won sales contests that took her all over the world.
Karen exhibited incredible versatility as she pivoted from the nutritional world to selling cardiovascular products for the biotechnology firm Genentech. Again, her work ethic and skills led her to be a top performer, and Karen saved many lives through the medical solutions she promoted.
Karens' selflessness and dedication to her family then drove her into her next chapter, staying home for the next 12 years to raise her children. Her husband Curt's achievements and the successes of her daughter Reagan and son Mark are in large part due to this sacrifice.
Once her children were older, (and without missing a beat), Karen reentered the job market and became a college professor. For the next 12 years, she taught nutritional sciences at various universities until she became ill. Even through her treatments, she showed incredible grit and determination, enriching young people and raising awareness for the causes and disciplines she cared about.
Although the last few years of her life were very painful, they could not begin to erase the profound spiritual impact that this amazing woman had on the world. Karen's stunning beauty and accolades truly pale in comparison to her love and devotion to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It is this faith that she took most pride in and drove her forward. We take solace in the fact that she is now home with her Lord, where her sufferings have been exchanged for gladness, mercy, and peace.
Karen is survived by her loving husband Curt. They were together just shy of 35 years. She is also survived by her daughter Reagan, son Mark, sister Cynthia, her nieces Delaney, Narelle, and Shane, her nephew Corey, and her son-in-law, Thomas.
