Karen (Holzmeier) Murray, age 78, of New Athens, IL passed away on January 13th, 2025 in St. Louis, MO. A St. Teresa Academy class of 1964 graduate, she retired from O'Fallon Healthcare Nursing home, was a longtime member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary where she served as VFW District 14 Auxiliary President from 1975-1976, and an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Full of love, laughter, and resilience, Karen touched the lives of all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of love and strength. Beloved wife of Lonzo Murray; dearest mother of James Murray, and Paul (Kelly) Murray; loving grandmother of Rylie, Karlye, Cort, Bradley, and Cooper; cherished sister of Mary Cornelison. Dear sister-in-law, aunt, great aunt, cousin, and friend to many.
Karen is preceded in death by her beloved son Philip Mack; her parents Oliver and Lorraine (Schlattweiler) Holzmeier; and her brother James Holzmeier. She is greeted by the wagging tail of her loyal four-legged baby, Lucky.
In lieu of flowers memorials are encouraged to be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Stroke Association.
Visitation: 4 – 8 p.m. on Monday January 20, 2025, and from 9 – 10 a.m. on Tuesday January 21, 2025, at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL.
Funeral: 10 a.m. on Tuesday January 21, 2025, at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL with Matthew Roddy officiating. Burial will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
